Greater Los Angeles Alumni Group

A Technion Alumni group is once again emerging in the Greater Los Angeles area and Orange County. Following a hiatus of several years, a group of alumni formed a steering committee in the fall of 2002 to reengage and motivate other graduates to become involved and supportive. Thirty alumni and spouses gathered in the home of Dr. Malka Barnes of Encino for a Hanukkah celebration and discussion of plans last December, and in February, Dr. Edmond Rambod and his wife Mickey put together a reception for 65 people at Bel Air Crest Clubhouse to meet with and hear a briefing from Maj. General Amos Horev and his wife Shoshana. In May, 15 alumni attended a special briefing with David Horovitz, Editor of the Jerusalem Report. A number of activities are taking shape for the remainder of this year and the early part of 2004 including a dinner in late October and another Hanukkah celebration.

Recently, the alumni steering committee initiated a fundraising drive to raise scholarship funds for Technion undergraduates. The goal is $50,000, which would provide scholarship assistance for 20 students for one year.

American Technion Society records indicate about 130 alumni live in and around Los Angeles. If you would like to participate in the scholarship fundraising effort, or if you are not receiving our mailings and communications, please contact Robert Rothschild, or his assistant Jose Reyes, at the ATS office, 323-857-5575, or 800-683-4287.
